Good book but has a few faults. I will start this out by saying I am a teen, the targeted audience for the book, and I have also lived in New Mexico for my entire life (NM is where the story is set in). The author did a wonderful job describing characters and having them act and talk like anyone in the 1800s would. He develops the plot well, and leaves enough mystery to make you want to keep reading. Granted, this is a very small book at 108 pages, but it doesnt feel like he is rushing through anything. I wouldnt read this book again, but it was a great book to read once. I would recommend it for ages 14+ anyone younger should have their parents read it first.

There are mentions of rape, and more than one of the characters are seen naked. As well as violence and mentions of witchcraft and cannibalism. I was well equipped to handle these topics, but some teens may not be able to.
